MENOPAUSE

MENOPAUSE is medically defined as the time in which a woman ceases to menstruate for the duration of 12 months. Although the definition properly describes the event, the process can begin up to 10 years earlier and is called perimenopause.

PERIMENOPAUSE is defined by the hormonal changes that occur as the body transitions into menopause. During this time, the ovaries begin to produce less estrogen and progesterone and testosterone. This explains that the side effects and symptoms can begin to affect a woman years before menopause actually begins.
