To fully answer this question, let’s discuss and define menopause. Menopause, which is the cessation – or stopping – of the normal, typically monthly, menstrual cycles. By its definition, Menopause occurs one year from the date of a woman’s last menstrual cycle; most women experience menopause in their 40’s or early to mid 50’s with 51 being the average age of menopause. A simple search of menopause on the internet will describe it almost certainly in terms of its physical and psychological symptoms, frequently emphasizing that this is a natural part of the aging process. What is seldom discussed on a superficial search of menopause online is the fact that what really is occurring during menopause is first a decrease in the amount of testosterone produced by a woman and then a decrease in the amount of progesterone produced by a woman. Once a woman enters menopause her body will never revert back to producing normal amounts of testosterone and progesterone, levels she made ten and twenty years ago. With these low levels of testosterone and progesterone, the myriad of symptoms described above. Woman choose to come to ReacTEvate / Optima Medical Care to safely and effectively attempt to stop these physical and psychological symptoms which greatly limit the quality of life of a woman undergoing menopause.

Many women experience the previously described symptoms of menopause(such as decreased libido, vaginal dryness, decreased mental acuity, depression and anxiety) as early as ten years prior to menopause. This ten year window prior to the actual cessation of monthly menstrual periods is known as the perimenopausal period. Many perimenopausal women are successfully treated at ReacTEvate / Optima Medical Care to stop or greatly control the above described symptoms well before menopausal symptoms occur.
Perimenopausal, Menopausal, and Post-Menopausal women all benefit from treatments provided by the specialized physicians at ReacTEvate / Optima Medical Care.

Men FAQ

Testosterone is the primary male hormone naturally produced by your body that is responsible for the normal growth and development of the male sex organs and for maintenance of other important sexual characteristics. In men, testosterone is produced in the testes – and to a lesser degree in the adrenal glands, the reproductive glands that also produce sperm. The amount of testosterone produced by the testes is regulated by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland – both of which are in the brain. Testosterone – in the proper amounts – can affect the following:

– Your sex drive and your healthy sexual function, well into your golden years

– Maturation, Growth and most importantly as we age maintenance of the male sex organs such as your testicles and your prostate gland

– Development and Maintenance of your secondary male sexual characteristics including male pattern hair distribution, skeletal muscle, and bone mass.- Changes in your body’s skeletal muscle mass and strength as well as your body’s distribution of fat

– The Strength and Density of your bones; men with low testosterone are prone to developing osteoporosis with a risk of increased fractures

– Your Energy Level and Your Overall Mood. Attention and memory are two key cognitive functions of the brain which are maintained when your testosterone levels are ideal. Abnormally low levels of testosterone are felt to be risk factors for cognitive decline and possibly for dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.

– At ReacTEvate we measure your initial testosterone level and we follow your testosterone level with simple blood work.

– Your physicians at ReacTEvate will discuss your baseline(initial testosterone level with you)

At ReacTEvate it is the longstanding goal of our experienced physicians treat each man as an individual, that being said there are general parameters for what is considered a ‘normal level of testosterone.’ While this varies depending on each man’s age and health it is generally accepted that the normal lab value for testosterone in a male is 250 – 1,000 ng/dL(nanograms per deciliter). This lab value refers to your total testosterone. Total testosterone refers to the entire amount of testosterone in your body, both bound testosterone(which is not able to be utilized by your body) and free testosterone, which is available for its multiple essential uses. Free testosterone, which is measures as pg/mL (picograms per deciliter), is generally in the range of 45 – 225 pg/mL. Ideally free testosterone should be 0.1 to 0.3 percent of your total testosterone. This free, unbound testosterone is the only available testosterone for your body to readily utilize.
